Thanks to Matt Davies who reminded me of a story I heard on Five Live earlier today.
For those who missed it - the basic story is that a lady won second prize in a cake-baking competition despite being the only entrant. I suppose it’s a reasonable “and finally” item for the drive-time news and yes it raised a smile.
Five hours later, Ive just switched on Five Live and they’re still talking about it. AND replaying the exclusive hard-hitting interview with the organiser of the fete. She seemed a little confused as to why the BBC were interviewing her - she wasn’t the only one!
STOP PRESS - the presenter just read out a text from someone who once finished third as the only entrant. Expect the whole of tomorrow’s breakfast show to be turned over to this shocking revelation…
On the subject of travel, I am shortly off to Los Angeles for a few weeks, so blogging will continue to be rare through June. I shall be staying with my friends Ron at Venice Beach and Duane in West Hollywood and also taking a 3-day road trip up to Death Valley, where the temperature is currently 42 degrees. Apart from that road trip, I am planning on getting around via public transport. My friends seem surprised at this, as LA has a reputation of being THE car city. However, I managed it two years ago, so I see no reason why I can’t do it again.
If I pass an internet cafe, I shall pop in with an update.
And for those of you aware of my work situation, still no news!
My blogging has been thin on the ground recently. A post-election rest, a Eurovision party, holiday booking and football playing have taken over.
Also, an interesting opportunity has arisen at work, which I can’t blog about at the moment, but hopefully can in a few weeks!
Normal service will be resumed… soon.

Is he the only man in the world to have his heart in his stomach?
If so, can anyone guess the location of his brain?

Things are getting a little tense around here lately, so to lighten the mood, check out the list of novel business names from the National Business Register.
I quite fancy a trip to Beau Thai in Solihull, perhaps after getting a new hairdo at Dye Hard.
But, could I ever bring myself to eat Chinese from “Wok This Way”?
No!
So the worst-kept secret in motoring has finally been made official, Aston Martin has been sold to Prodrive and co. It gives Ford a much-needed cash injection, but make no mistake, it won’t make much of a dent in the $23bn “restructuring mortgage” they recently took out.
Now Ford have got the taste for it, are Jaguar and Land Rover next on the chopping block? It’s well documented that Ford’s number one priority is turning around it’s disasterous North American operations. Aston Martin spearheaded Ford’s European luxury group, so will the dismantling continue?
It’s my opinion that J/LR is finally turning the corner, but can Ford wait and take the risk that the profits might not arrive? With 4×4’s becoming less socially acceptable by the day - is this the right time to Ford to get rid? But - the question of who will buy us is a major stumbling block.
Even so, I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m working for new owners by the end of the year. Or perhaps more likely, looking for a new employer as sweeping cuts are made by new owners! Watch this space.
Just got home in time to watch Confessions of a Diary Secretary. It amused me enough to keep my attention for the full 90 minutes (which is more than the Cobblers normally do!) but I think the writer had been watching a tad too much Bridget Jones… all that was missing was a scrap inside and outside of a Greek restaurant! (although the famous Two Jabs moment did feature…)
vs
Give me Bridget Jones anyday!
Had to have a giggle at this from the Quaequam Blog!
Well, an eMove anyway! I’m taking the plunge and setting up WordPress on my own server. This means nothing to a lot of people I’m sure, but it will explain why this site may appear/disappear at will over the weekend.
So a self-hosted WordPress coming soon. Bells and whistles later ![]()
